1. Dating
Do you remember the time you were just getting to know your partner and you used to date a lot? I’m sure you used to feel butterflies in your stomach, or maybe you’d spend hours and hours trying to pick up an outfit to make them crazy about you. Then you just talked and talked, and you couldn’t wait until the next date.
Where are those feelings now? I have a friend who once told me that she goes out with her boyfriend once a month to a fancy restaurant. They order their favorite food, they dress up, and they just talk about everything that comes to their minds.
This is exactly what a woman who’s been married to her husband for 30 years told us. She and her partner like to go for a drink every other week or when they have the chance to do it so that they can talk and feel connected to each other. Just because you’ve been with your significant other for quite a while doesn’t mean that the fun and cheerful period of dating should be over.
2. No restrictions
There are a lot of people who try to put restrictions on their partners, whether it’s not allowing them to go out with their friends without them being there or telling them to quit their hobbies and passions.
Joanna, a woman from Chicago told us that she and her husband make sure to always talk about what they want to do and why and they always come up with the best solutions on how to make everything better for both of them. “You have to talk to each other and don’t put any restrictions regarding one’s likes because that gives off the feeling that you don’t trust each other. That is the secret to my marriage”, Joanna said.
3. Sense of humor and support
A woman named Bertha, who’s from New Jersey, told us that she’s always cared about her husband’s likes and passions, so she tried to understand him and support all of his goals. “Trust is the most important thing if you want to get along with your significant other”, she stated when we asked her what their secret was.
Other than that, Bertha said that having a sense of humor is also the glue to a healthy partnership because it’s a lot easier to face problems when you have someone that will make you laugh no matter what.
